Although we often focus on community resilience only in the midst of
emergencies, it is important to develop or strengthen it also during or after
more stable periods to better prepare for potential future crises and to heal
from those that have passed.
The community and its members must be the first to detect if an unusual
event has or is occurring in their surroundings. It is therefore appropriate to
train, empower and equip them to identify these threats to help them prevent
and respond to them. This will be an essential pillar of a common social
well-being free from harm and adversity.
It is in this perspective that the World Future Active Organisation aims
to further adapt to the local and regional context comprehensive approaches to
resilience programming, including those that address epidemic shocks. These
approaches integrate resilience at multiple scales and sectors.
They are therefore more delocalized and adaptable on the ground with
dimensions that assess the limited capacity of populations to adopt positive
coping strategies.
Our response actions are in line with our commitment to support
communities, including through the training of volunteers for the humanitarian
cause.
WORLD FUTURE ACTIVE will therefore further integrate a community
resilience approach, to explicitly address
-The social context that drives the impact and mitigation of local
vulnerabilities,
-Building on existing community capacity and local knowledge,
-Helping the community to cope with the complexity inherent in epidemic
shocks.
-Training volunteers in risk and disaster management within their
communities.
