To strengthen the
skills of schoolchildren and students and their participation in community
development initiatives ‘Projet Vacances’.
2. Activity
description
World Future
Active, in collaboration with the Bujumbura City Council, is organizing a
series of activities to support young people on vacation in all areas of the
city. These activities aim to promote the personal development, citizenship and
responsibility of young people, while contributing to the sanitation and
beautification of the city.
3. Funded by:
World Future
Active and the contribution of the local community.
4. Duration and
location
36 months in
Bujumbura town hall.
5. Context and justification
School vacations
are a time of great freedom for young people, but they can also be a source of
risks and excesses. The lack of supervision can expose them to dangers such as
delinquency, drug use, gender-based sexual violence and road accidents.
School vacations
can also be a source of social inequality. Young people from disadvantaged
backgrounds often don't have access to the same activities as those from more
affluent backgrounds. This can accentuate social disparities and hinder the
personal development of disadvantaged young people.
6. Overall
objective
The overall
objective of this program is to contribute to the development of young people
in Bujumbura and other provinces by offering them opportunities for learning,
personal development and civic participation.
7. Activities to
be carried out
Supervising young
people during the school vacations is therefore crucial to enabling them to blossom
and become responsible citizens. The activities organized by World Future
Active meet a number of young people's needs:
Education and
training: Young people need to develop their skills and
knowledge to succeed in life. The training courses offered by the Bujumbura
town council will enable them to acquire new skills and prepare them for their
professional future.
Sporting and
cultural activities: Sporting and
cultural activities enable young people to expend their energy, have fun and
develop their team spirit. They also contribute to their personal development
and well-being.
Raising awareness
of environmental issues: Young people
have an important role to play in protecting the environment. The environmental
education activities proposed by the Bujumbura town council will enable them to
become aware of environmental issues and take concrete action to protect the
planet.
Raising awareness
of the risks associated with narcotics and gender-based sexual violence: Narcotics and gender-based sexual violence are
scourges that particularly affect young people. Awareness-raising activities
organized by Bujumbura City Council will enable young people to protect
themselves against these dangers and promote respect for human rights.
Strengthening
social cohesion and public safety: Involving
young people in city sanitation and community policing activities will help to
strengthen social cohesion and improve public safety.
In addition, the
school vacation youth mentoring project will contribute to the achievement of the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 5
(gender equality), SDG 10 (reducing inequality), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and
communities) and SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions).
