World Future Active (WFA) joined other non-governmental organizations to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Burundi and the United Nations System in Burundi, in partnership with the Initiative for Cultural and Tourism Development.

In the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s legacy, this day was marked by concrete actions of solidarity, social justice, and environmental protection, closely linked to feminist climate action:

♻️ Plastic waste collection along the shores of Lake Tanganyika, an essential initiative for ecosystem protection, driven by an inclusive approach where women and young people play a central role in addressing the climate crisis.

📚 Distribution of school desks and benches to under-resourced schools, contributing to improved learning conditions and promoting quality education, a key driver for the empowerment of girls and young women.

The event brought together representatives from United Nations agencies, the private sector, local and international non-governmental organizations, as well as committed youth and volunteers working for environmental protection and sustainable development.

The Executive Director of World Future Active, Mr. Idesbard MUGISHA, expresses his sincere appreciation to all partners, WFA youth volunteers, and young people from other local and international organizations who contributed to the success of this action. Their commitment demonstrates the power of partnerships and the capacity of young people to drive concrete solutions to environmental and social challenges.

This initiative strongly aligns with the objectives of Generation Equality, promoting feminist climate justice and meaningful youth participation, as well as the vision of the Youth Caucus of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) to strengthen youth leadership in ecosystem restoration and combating land degradation.
