On Thursday 4 December, a World Future Active management team travelled to the Kigamba Commune of Cankuzo for a field visit to monitor and evaluate the "Innovative project to improve agricultural production by recovering biodegradable waste through vermicomposting" implemented by World Future Active.

The specific aims of this monitoring mission were to
- check on the progress of the installation of the vermicomposting bins and the beneficiaries' maize fields.
- To discuss with the leaders of the beneficiary groups their satisfaction and their needs in terms of agricultural practices.
- and to discuss and exchange views with the communal agricultural instructors on the prospects and agricultural techniques at the heart of the project.

Thanks to funding from the French Embassy via the Programme d'Autonomisation Socioeconomiques des Femmes (PISCAA-PASEF), World Future Active has been able to implement this project, which aims to improve women's agricultural production by recovering biodegradable waste through worm composting.

The beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction with the results already achieved thanks to the project. The vermicomposting bins that have already been installed will provide an effective means of recovering organic waste and producing high-quality compost for crops. In addition, discussions with the leaders of the beneficiary groups have enabled us to understand their specific needs in terms of sustainable agricultural practices.

As part of an in-depth reflection on the prospects and agricultural techniques at the heart of the project, proposals for interventions were formulated by the beneficiary group leaders in the three hills targeted by the project, namely: Kivumu, Rusagara and Nyamurenza, which come from the CMDI cooperative and are co-partners in the project.

The beneficiaries expressed their need for capacity-building in soil conservation techniques and training in agro-ecological practices.
World Future Active undertook to take these requests into account and to promise interventions tailored to meet the specific needs of each group.

The achievements of the project so far are promising, and the satisfaction of the beneficiaries and the proposals for action made by the beneficiary groups are the first signs of the positive impact this project will have on the farming community of Kigamba.

Thanks to funding from the French Embassy via PISCAA, World Future Active is continuing its efforts to improve agricultural production and contribute to the economic empowerment of beneficiaries, especially women and girls.
