Training
Sessions in Vermiculture and Vermicomposting transform agriculture in Kigamba,
Cankuzo on 23 November 2023.
World Future
Active, with the facilitation of IMISIBA, is organising specialised training
sessions on vermiculture and vermicomposting techniques in the commune of
Kigamba, Cankuzo.

This
training is part of an innovative project to improve agricultural production by
recovering bio-waste through vermicomposting, funded by the French Embassy in
Burundi through its programme for the socio-economic empowerment of women and
girls.
These
training sessions, led by Franck FERRENBACH, an expert consultant in vermiculture
and soil conservation, were attended by 45 beneficiaries from the commune of
Kigamba.
The aim of
these sessions was to provide participants with the knowledge and skills they
need to put vermiculture and vermicomposting into practice in their farming activities.
The day's
programme focused on the environmental and economic benefits of vermicompost.
Participants learned how to transform organic waste into high-quality compost,
which can be used to improve soil fertility naturally, without the need for costly
and polluting chemical fertilisers.
The
beneficiaries expressed their satisfaction with the relevance and quality of
the training. They stressed the importance of these new skills in improving
their agricultural yields, reducing their production costs and helping to
preserve the environment.
In addition
to improving agricultural production, this project also supports the
socio-economic empowerment of women and girls in the region by providing them
with skills in vermiculture and vermicomposting. World Future Active aims to
strengthen their role in the farming community, increase their income and
promote their social inclusion.
